Australia’s climate is changing, posing risks to key systems that underpin our way of life.
Understanding these risks at a granular level – considering local impacts, local conditions and differences in community characteristics – is important in informing effective adaptation.
Australia’s first National Climate Risk Assessment (the National Assessment) assesses risks across our society and environment, including our economy, communities, agriculture, health, infrastructure, and ecosystems.
This National Assessment provides new data and analyses assembled in a nationally consistent way that can be used by governments, communities, industries and businesses to drive adaption at national, regional and local scales.
It draws on research and analysis from multiple sources, has been guided by international best practices, and the Australian Climate Service has engaged with leaders and subject matter experts from governments, industries, academia and the community. It has also leveraged expertise and data from the Bureau of Meteorology, CSIRO, the Australian Bureau of Statistics and Geoscience Australia.
The National Assessment has followed a phased approach.
